Tae
Kwon Do Black Belt Essay
(June 3, 2000)
History
I
was fourteen years old when I started Tae Kwon Do. I also
just started in a new school, new classes and trying to make
new friends. Everything in my life was changing and nothing
ever stayed the same. One of my friends in my math class would
talk to me about how she was in Tae Kwon Do. She told me about
the exercises, the classes, the other people in the school
and what kind of relationship she had with everyone. I thought
it was interesting, and was quite honestly bored with my own
social life the way it was. She gave me an address and told
me I should see for myself. My mother thought it would be
good for me too, mainly for the physical exercise and to get
me out of the house. So my mom and I went to the school, and
watched a full class together. It looked hear.
I
doubted if I could be able to do many of the things that the
students were doing. My mother also worried about the same
things I did because she had a rough idea of my limits physically,
and worried about me because of this. I still tried it out,
my first day being about a week later in a mixed class instead
of the beginner’s class. It was hard work, hard exercise
and I had fun. I met new people; made friends in the first
day that I am still friends with today, and to this today
I have not forgotten all that I learned. I have stayed because
of the constant stream of new people that I get the chance
to meet with. I love the sport, the exercise that I get with
the routine training; it is something that I look forward
to on my days where I do not train.
Everyone
in the school is so supportive of me; they all give me encouragement
when I need it, and I try to do the same in return. Without
the help of everyone in school I believe I would have not
come as far as I have today. There is a lot more that I will
need help in later on, and I hope that my friends are still
going to be there with me. The reason I started was to be
with my friend and to meet new people, the reason I will continue
is a whole lot more.
